Office Pool Ideas: Friendly Bets for the Whole Team
Updated October 18, 2026
Will the coffee machine be fixed by Friday? How many people will turn up to the holiday party? A quick office pool takes two minutes and gets everyone talking in the kitchen. Here are ideas, simple ground rules so everyone feels welcome, and how to set one up in seconds.
Why a friendly office pool works
At work, the best moments are often the small ones: a joke by the coffee machine, a debate about last night’s football (or soccer) game, a silly question in the team channel. A friendly office pool with no money creates exactly that. Everyone makes a guess in ten seconds, then you wait for the verdict together.
It’s also a gentle way to get people talking who don’t usually work together: finance, the dev team and reception suddenly have something in common. It costs nothing and needs almost no organizing. And because nobody puts money in, there are no smug winners or bitter losers, just a bit of pride on the line. Our guide to betting without money explains why it’s more fun that way.
Office pool ideas
Here are questions that work well, with the answer type to choose on MyMiniBet.
Everyday office life
- Will the coffee machine be fixed by Friday? Yes / No. The all-time classic.
- How many paper clips are in the jar? Fill a jar, leave it at reception, and run a Number bet: closest wins.
- What will the thermostat say on Monday at 9 am? Number, with the unit "°F" or "°C" depending on where your office is.
- Will the plant at reception grow a new leaf before the end of the month? Yes / No.
- How many minutes will the all-hands meeting last? Number, with the unit "minutes". Run it with a smile, and with the host’s blessing.
- Will the team’s train to the offsite leave on time? The running-late template works well for this.
Big moments in the year
- How many people will come to the holiday party? Number.
- When will the first snow fall outside the office? Date: closest wins.
- Which team wins the Halloween costume contest? Choice, with up to six answers: finance, sales, the dev team, reception, management and "another team".
- Which dish wins the bake-off? Choice, if your team runs one.
Sport
- Who wins the World Cup? Choice, with five favorites and "Another team".
- Who wins tonight’s game? The match winner template is ready to go.
- Who wins the Super Bowl? Choice, and expect a lively lunch break.
To follow a whole tournament, our guide to sports predictions with friends walks you through it, and it all works at the office too.
Big news, with consent
- A colleague’s baby: birth date, weight, girl or boy. Only if the parents-to-be are happy to play: it’s their call. The birth date and baby weight templates are made for this, and our baby pool guide has all the tips.
- The end of a big project: "When will the new website go live?" as a Date. Keep it for projects the team wants to laugh about together, never to put pressure on someone.

Ground rules so everyone feels welcome
An office game only works if everyone feels comfortable. A few simple rules go a long way.
- Joining is optional. Share the link once and leave it there. Nobody has to explain why they’re not playing, and nobody gets chased.
- No pressure from the top. Before the deadline, people can see who has played but not their answers: nobody copies the boss, and nobody is swayed by anyone else. A manager can play like everyone else, no more.
- Nothing about private lives without consent. No bets on a colleague’s love life, health, an unannounced pregnancy, someone leaving or a promotion. For happy news, ask the person first, and drop it if they hesitate.
- Nobody is the target. "Who’ll be late this time?" aimed at the same colleague every week stops being a game. Bet on things (the machine, the weather, the train), not on people.
- Zero money. No stakes, no kitty, and no dare that costs money, like "buy donuts for the team": that’s just a stake in disguise.
- Light, work-appropriate dares. Nothing embarrassing, nothing that gets in the way of anyone’s day.
- If in doubt, ask. Check with your manager or HR, especially if the game grows beyond your team, say across a whole floor.
Anyone can also play under a nickname if they prefer.
Dares that stay friendly
The dare is what makes it fun, as long as everyone laughs, including the person doing it. A few ideas for the office:
- water the plants on your floor for a week;
- give the "office weather report" at the start of the next team meeting;
- tidy up the kitchen corner;
- write the joke for the next team newsletter;
- use a video call background picked by the winner, within reason;
- make the coffee for the next meeting, with the office machine... if it’s been fixed.
Or simply play for bragging rights: at work, it’s often the best option. Our list of harmless dare ideas has plenty more.
Set up the bet in seconds
Start from the office template or create a bet from scratch, with no account:
- Write the question, up to 140 characters.
- Choose the answer type: Yes / No, Choice (2 to 6 answers), Number (closest wins) or Date (closest wins).
- Choose the stake: a suggested dare, your own (up to 100 characters), or no dare at all, just bragging rights.
- Set the deadline, for example Thursday at 6 pm for the coffee machine. After that, nobody can bet and all predictions are revealed.
You then get a secret organizer link: send it to yourself or save it in your notes. It lets you close predictions early, enter the result or delete the bet. And yes, the organizer can play too.
Share it on Slack, Teams, WhatsApp... or by the coffee machine
The link goes anywhere:
- In a Slack or Teams channel: copy the link and paste it into the team channel with a one-line intro. In most chat apps, the link shows a preview with the question.
- In the team’s WhatsApp group: the WhatsApp button does it in one tap.
- In the kitchen: put the QR code up on the board next to the coffee machine. Colleagues scan it with their phone while the coffee brews.
A message you can copy:
Office pool of the week: will the coffee machine be fixed by Friday? Open the link, add your first name (or a nickname) and make your guess before Thursday 6 pm. Totally optional, no money, just bragging rights.
Everyone can change their prediction until the deadline. So nobody forgets, the add-to-calendar button puts the deadline straight into their calendar.
The verdict, then the season ranking
When the result is known, the organizer enters it on the site. The winners appear under a shower of confetti, with a story-format verdict card you can post in the channel. The dare goes to the losers for a Yes / No or Choice bet, and to whoever is furthest off for a Number or Date bet. A reminder button prepares a ready-made message about the dare, to be sent kindly.
To keep it going, start a league: from any bet, tap Launch another bet with the same group. Each new bet joins the same league, which shows a ranking with 1 point per bet won, counted by first name. Remind everyone to use the same name every time.
A few season ideas:
- September to the holidays, with one bet a week and a champion crowned at the end-of-year party.
- During a big tournament, with one bet per match.
- All year round, with one bet a month about office life.
The trophy? Nothing bought: the title of "Prediction Champion" on the kitchen board, a trophy made of paper clips, or the right to pick the next question. For a team party, our guide to party bets also has ideas for the night itself. And all your bets stay listed under My bets, on your phone.
Private and tidy
Bets are private: they live on a secret link, never show up on Google and are deleted automatically one year after predictions close. Nobody needs an account or an email address: a first name or a nickname is enough.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need permission to run an office pool?
For a small bet within a team, usually not, but if in doubt, check with your manager. The game stays free, with no money, no prizes and optional participation.
Do colleagues need to install an app?
No. They open the link from Slack, Teams or WhatsApp, or scan the QR code, then type their first name and make a prediction. No account needed.
Can people see other predictions before playing?
No. Before the deadline, you only see who has already played. All answers are revealed at once when predictions close, so nobody can copy.
How long does a bet stay online?
It’s deleted automatically one year after predictions close. The organizer can also delete it sooner with the organizer link.
